Effective User Interface Design Tips

Before starting on any user interface design project, it is essential to keep in mind - the concept of content, the context and who your audience is! Identifying your goals, your boundaries, your platforms & audiences will help you in shaping the designs and help in developing the best possible visual solution for it.

User Interface (UI) is not just about attractive visuals and designs of elements. It is way more than that. User Interface is the interaction between the user and the product. A good user interface should have a clear message that needs to be broadcasted to the end-user. It should meet their needs and wants. This is why it is necessary to understand and apply the best practices to create top user interface designs.

10 EFFECTIVE TIPS FOR USER INTERFACE DESIGNS:

  1. Clear & Spontaneous User Navigation :

A highly qualitative user interface should include necessary elements and have a good structure. To have a properly created UI, you need to give user-experience the priority. The main menu button needs to be there in a subtle way to stop distraction. If the visitor is looking for example, renting a dress, they should be able to land on that particular page if your brand provides this service. Your page should not be cluttered with unnecessary buttons & elements.

  1. Defined Target Audience :

The main task of any website or mobile app is to provide solutions for the user's problems. This is only possible to know when they interact with the application. In-depth market research of user’s behavior and engagement on similar products helps in evaluation of the target audience. This is the cornerstone of a good user interface design. This enables them to provide solutions and transfer the same in the app interface.

  1. Consistency is the Key to Success:

Being consistent is very much important in this path. Top designers prefer not to surprise their users with drastic changes. Instead they prefer to stick to a set theme and guide to showcase a unified brand style. This type of consistency is required throughout the user interface design. Throughout consistency is required which includes colors, icons, fonts, placement of menus and buttons.

  1. Transparent Actions:

When users click on a menu, one of the good practices is to confirm the action with some indication of successful operation, like some animation or color change or a pop-up window. Leaving users without any feedback is considered to be a bad manner in UI design practices. Being transparent about your actions is important.

  1. Maintaining Hierarchical Order:

One big mistake to avoid is trying to highlight all features on a single screen. Instead of leading users to what they are looking for, too much buttons and information usually overwhelm them. That is why maintaining a hierarchical order is important. In this way, the design would allow the users to quickly find their main aim for visiting the site and also to understand your message.

  1. Attractive Patterns:

A good user interface design is one that is very much attractive,  simple, trendy yet reflects the brand message. Thorough research is needed for a successful user interface. Buttons, fonts, colors, patterns and visual elements create a unique brand identity. The visual feature should reinforce functionality.

  1. Design Keeping People In Mind:

Users are the one for whom applications and websites are created. So user interface design should be done keeping them in mind. Common people should be able to access it as it is for all. Your site design should be user-friendly and should not be too technically sound to access from. Easily available solution buttons, visuals to guide through navigation - these key points should be kept in mind. Users are humans only and can make errors, so your site should have easy solutions to any errors.

  1. Proactive User Interface:

It is not easy to predict what your users need, but it is not impossible either. A little research and a ton full of information can provide you exactly what you need to predict users' future needs and based on that your user interface design could be a good success.

For example, you know that people buy gifts for holidays and festivals. Based on that, you can place an attractive banner on the first page citing information of lucrative gift options at staggering discounts. That banner would simply redirect them to that page full of offers. In this way, based on a proactive approach on the UI design the goal can be achieved.

  1. Easy, Clear & Simple to Access:

Users land on your page while searching for a solution to their tasks. That is why, the success of  a good UI design depends on easy accessibility where the UI should be reinforced with tabs, shortcuts and tooltips. Such features make the interface more intuitive and user-friendly.

For example, if an application  provides the feature to upload photos, it should also have the following buttons:- to crop, to resize, to rotate, and to edit the image. The aim of the designers is to help users in figuring out where they can find solutions too at first glance.

  1. Limited Number of Gestures:

Number of gestures as in - swiping, tapping, pressing or voice command - should be limited in number on the user interface design. These actions are used to lead the users to their needed solutions.

But all of these, when used together, might overwhelm the users. So it is advisable to choose properly which gestures should be included in order to solve the purpose without overwhelming the users. Users should have a clear understanding of the actions required to perform to get their result.
