Set Up Your Google Ads Campaign in Just 7 Steps

Google Ads are one of the best online advertising options. Over the last decade PPC advertising has become essential for almost every business irrespective of the size or industry it belongs to. STEPS TO SET UP YOUR GOOGLE ADWORDS

Step 1: Create an account :

To get started with the Google Adwords, first you need to create a Google Ads account. Go to ads.google.com and click on 'Start Now'. This will land you to a page where you need to sign in with your existing Google account or get registered to create a new one. Now Google will ask you about your main advertising goal. Do not choose any of that. Instead scroll down and choose 'Switch to Expert Mode'. You can now click that button saying 'Create Your First Campaign'. 

Step 2 : Choose a campaign type and name :

There are different campaign types for different purposes. The types of Google Ad Campaigns are -

  • Search 

  • Display

  • Video

  • Shopping

  • App

  • Discovery

  • Local

  • Performance Max

To pick a campaign, Google will first ask you to choose an objective. Depending on your objective, it will then show you which campaign types are available. For beginners it's best to opt for 'Search Network Only'. Name your campaign based on the product or service you are advertising. 

Step 3 : Select Ad display location :

You can opt from the many options when it comes to people’s locations. You can choose a large or small area, like an entire country or just a city. If you want a specific area, you can use latitude-longitude coordinates also. Be sure you know the locations of your ideal customer. If you are a local business owner you should target people around your area. If you are selling your products and services to people throughout the country, choose your country’s name. For business owners who sell internationally, you may want to set up several campaigns for countries that have the highest sales or where most of your consumers live.

Step 4 : Set your daily budget :

In the beginning, it is best to set a low daily budget.  This allows you to start slowly, gather data and then expand on what you are working with. Once you are more familiar with your campaigns you can take it up a notch high. Note that Google can and will go slightly over your daily budget. For that reason, it’s important to keep a close eye on your campaigns and adjust your budgets each week to ensure you don’t go over your maximum monthly ad budget.

Step 5 : Add Keywords :

This is tricky for new users. Your first option would be to add as many keywords as possible that you think are relevant for your business.  In fact, this is exactly what Google wants you to do because then you will spend more money. Do not fall for it. Instead focus only on what we call the “bullseye” keywords. These are the keywords where there is absolutely no doubt that the person searching the keyword is looking for exactly what you offer. There may only be a handful of these keywords to choose from.  Don’t add any keywords where there is any doubt whether the searcher may not be looking for your product or service.

Step 6 : Create an Ad :

All that done, now it's time to create an ad to attract your consumers and make them click so that they land up on your website. Consumers are more likely to click on an ad that has the keyword they used in Google’s search bar. So, if you are targeting a specific keyword phrase your consumers use (after doing keyword research), be sure to use that phrase in one of the two headlines. 

Focus on the key benefits of your product or service, describe your special offer if you have one and end with a strong call to action when you are writing the Ad description. You can add up two descriptions of 90 characters each. 

Lastly, always try to send people to a landing page that is created to specifically match your ad. By doing this, you can ensure that the information in the ad is reflected on the landing page, which will lead to stronger conversions. This is the final url of your website with which your Ad will be linked to. 

Step 7 : Set up your billing :

The last step in creating Google Ad and choosing a campaign is to set up your billing details. Google gives you the option to fund your account with either a credit or debit card, paypal account  or a registered bank account. If you have a promotion code from Google, you can enter that here too.

Congratulations you have successfully set up your first Google Ads campaign. As your ads run, keep an eye on the analytics. You will be able to see what is working and what isn’t working in your favor. As you pay attention to what your ads do, you will be able to get closer to what will give you the best results. When you’ve figured out which ads your consumers click on the most, you can create similar ones for higher cost-per-click keywords. This will help you increase your ROI.
